The main character Amelie is born into a family of very strict parents. Dreamy and vulnerable, the girl faces the reticence of her doctor father, who only touches her during her monthly checkups. Her heart rate is racing with excitement. The father decides that his daughter has a heart defect, so she will study at home. Deprived of communication with her peers, the girl grows out of touch with reality. After her mother’s death in an accident, she is left alone with her father.

Amelie grows up and moves to Paris. She gets a job as a waitress in a cafe in Montmartre and still lives in fantasy. On the day of Princess Diana’s death, the heroine discovers a cache of old children’s toys in the house and decides to return them to their owner. Finding it with difficulty, she realizes that she likes to make people happy. This is how she will live from now on.

Nino grows up as a modest, thoughtful boy, he is offended by his classmates. Now he has already turned into a man and dreams of meeting a kindred spirit, but for now he is trying to solve the mystery. The hero discovered that some man was constantly photographed in all the machines of the city with a stone face, and decided that this was a ghost.

Amelie notices Nino’s investigations and decides to help him without showing herself. She finds out that the ghost is just a fitter. With the help of clues, the girl helps Nino solve the mystery. Finally they meet and realize that they have found each other.

One of the best, if not the best! It’s not about the plot. Want a breath of fresh air? Friendly smile? To be patted on the head? Then watch it, you won’t regret it!

a sweet, goofy, touching and symbolic movie. behind a light unpretentious picture – deep feelings. May 19, 2015 I definitely agree with ivi’s “Must See” note.
If you haven’t yet, watch it now!
Don’t delay!
And it’s scary to meet people in life who might not like this picture.
However, this is just my opinion.

Absolutely amazing movie. God bless people who know how to shoot such things. And let everyone find in this film a little of himself or what he lacked.

I kept thinking who Lily Collins (Snow White: Revenge of the Dwarfs) looks like, of course, the beautiful Audrey Tautou. >We love loneliness and hold our cell phone tightly in our hands.
We are sure that we are absolutely calm and reach for another cigarette.
We shock people and are afraid to say love.
We live for today and make plans for tomorrow.
We are very self-critical and love only ourselves.
We forgive ourselves for all the mistakes and look askance at those who make them.
We want people to accept us as we are and spend hours in front of the mirror.

The film is not bad (recommended for both children and adults), light, kind, built on atmosphere and feelings. Who wants a light, romantic, a little fantastic story to relax – look, who is waiting for the dynamic melodrama “For adults” – do not look, you will be disappointed._. (it was my IMHO, listen to it or not – you decide)
Those who wrote “crap” seem to be just from a series of neighing at stupid American humor.
If the level of your development is stuck on the “American pie”, don’t even start looking, you won’t understand.
A film with its own philosophy, it must be understood. The soundtracks for the movie are amazing as is the movie itself.

Yes, Paris is beautiful at any time of the year.

October 26, 2016

  • Whenever scenes had to be filmed in a real location, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the crew had to clear the space of debris, dirt and graffiti to make the film more in line with the director’s fantasy. This proved especially difficult when it came time to shoot at the train station.
  • The main colors of the painting – green, yellow and red – are inspired by the color palette of paintings by Juarez Machado, a Brazilian artist.
  • Jean-Pierre Genet began writing down the memories that made up Amélie’s story in 1974.
  • The title role was specially written for Emily Watson. She wanted to take part in the filming, but she had to refuse. The actress did not speak French and had already agreed to star in another film – “Gosford Park”, released in 2001.
  • The idea of a traveler dwarf was borrowed from a series of similar cases in England and France in the 1990s. Later it was used for a promotion by a travel agency.
  • Audrey Tautou couldn’t float pancakes in water. These scenes had to be completed with the help of special effects.
  • With the exception of a brief telephone conversation where Amelie gives instructions to Nino (he, in turn, just listens and is silent), and a dialogue in a cafe, the two do not exchange a word throughout the whole picture.
  • At first, Jean-Pierre Jeunet wanted Michael Neumann to compose the music for his new film, but he couldn’t get it. Later, someone gave him a disc of Jan Tiersen, who also writes in a minimalist instrumental style. Genet fell in love with his music and bought the rights to use it in the picture. In addition, Tiersen also wrote the main theme, “Amelie’s Waltz”, which is used in numerous variations throughout the film.
  • The black-and-white funeral that the heroine watches on television consists of footage filmed by Pate magazine at 1923 at the funeral of Sarah Bernhardt.
  • In the original film, Emily’s father, Mr. Colignon, while making holes in flowers, tells his daughter that he would prefer it to be lilac. This is a direct reference to the song by Serge Gainsbourg, the French singer, “Le poinçonneur des Lilas”.
  • Ippolit Terentiev, the unlucky philosopher from The Idiot (1869) by Fyodor Dostoevsky, served as the prototype for Hipolito. The protagonist is innocent, naive and very kind to everyone. Just like Amelie. Most likely, the film itself was written under the impression of this work.
  • Some places in the film can be found on the map: Les 2 Moulins cafe is located in Montmartre at the beginning of rue Lepic, and Colignon fruit and vegetable shop is on the rue des Three Brothers.
  • The film uses a Volkswagen Beetle model, which went on sale in the summer of 1998, and the story takes place in 1997. The director knew about this mistake, but the new model of the car, in his opinion, better emphasized the character of the main character.
  • The date of the death of Princess Diana is incorrectly indicated in the film: she died on August 31, 1997, not 30.
  • Amelie is watching Philips TV but the remote says Thomson.
  • Another calendar error: In one frame, there is a message on the blackboard: “Friday, April 7, 1980.” Actually, it was Monday.
  • At the beginning of the film, Amelie’s mother is watching figure skaters’ performances on TV. Judging by the age of Amelie, this is about the 70s. On the screen is figure skater Rudy Galindo, an American figure skating star of the 90s, who was still a child in the 70s.
  • Amelie is going to record a live broadcast of the Tour de France at the end of August, but the famous bike races are always held in July.
  • Nino works at the Tron fair, which is open in Paris from March to May, and the film takes place in August.

    Audrey Tautou’s main film

A film about a young eccentric who triggered the mechanisms of someone else’s happiness, and played hide and seek with her own. Montmartre, where she lives, is a paradise from Hollywood films of the 50s, with lofts, Renoir paintings, concierges and cafe regulars, and it was this style that determined fashion (at least in shoes and accessories) in 2001. For the newborn cinema of the 21st century, Amelie Poulain is like Marianne for France: a girl-symbol.

In an asparagus casserole served on a September afternoon in a cafe near the house; in stones thrown like pancakes along the surface of the city canal; in the handwriting, which he recognized when he accidentally discovered a letter from a forgotten friend at Saturday cleaning, happiness lurked everywhere. It is waiting for someone who knows how to arrange ordinary objects in order to change the position of the stars in our personal horoscopes. The one who knows that a hardened homebody can be turned into a world traveler with the help of a garden gnome, and a depressed patient can be turned into a lucky woman with the help of a morning newspaper. Unfortunately, her field of activity is limited to Montmartre, where she lives. But for the surrounding residents, she is a guardian angel, although few people know about it. She is 23 years old, black hair, works as a waitress. My name is Amelie Poulain.

A film about an eccentric who triggered the mechanisms of someone else’s happiness, while playing hide-and-seek with her own, has become a major film event in the West. On the eve of the Moscow film release, which will take place on September 20, a Russian journalist can only nod in agreement: “Yes, it is.” For the newborn cinema of the 21st century, Amelie Poulain is like Marianne for France: a girl-symbol. “Amelie” with its computer crocodiles and talking photos from a machine gun is close to the super-popular comic book culture. Montmartre here is a paradise from Hollywood films of the 50s, with lofts, paintings by Renoir, concierges and cafe regulars, but doesn’t the style of the 50s determine the current fashion, at least in shoes and accessories? “Amelie” meets all the most pressing expectations of 2001 so much that it might even irritate. If this film weren’t so positive and humane, it wouldn’t fit with any modern film fashion with its pianists dancing in the dark. The fact is that the look of director Genet, who previously entertained with rare pathologies (Delicatessen, Alien-4), this time is directed to the very essence of things: to their surface.

There are many characters in Amelie, but even more objects. They fill the frames like old children’s toys fill attics. The objects are enumerated, their parameters are enumerated, but the relation to them is never announced by the voice behind the frame, which reads Amelie’s story like a radio fairy tale. The voice reports the air temperature, dates and exact time of action, place and things, without giving comments. “Amelie” is like a sentence without adjectives. Here is the first phrase of the film and a typical example of its device: “September 3, 1973 years at 18 hours 32 seconds, a fly from the meat family, producing 14,670 wing beats per minute, sat down on the Rue Saint-Vincent. Unlike most author’s films exploring spiritual spheres, Amelie is a searchlight aimed at the objective world. This is his amazing secret that captivated Europe. After all, trying to penetrate the other side of the form, we go on a date only with our own imagination; communication with the form leaves one on one with objective truth. And where there is no untruth, there is no grief.

It is 6:22 p.m. as I write this article. As in “Amelie”, it is the beginning of September, the 10th. Today, the first foliage has fallen, the air is hazy, so, despite the early hour, lanterns were lit over the Pyramid cafe, visible from the window. I think about the last weeks, when it seems to me that the Lord God put his phonendoscope to my heart and listens sensitively, sending me dreams that have come true. The Genet film is one of them. In 10 days and 53 minutes, the life of Moscow will change: “Amelie” will appear in it.

when I saw “Amelie”, I always dreamed of seeing a movie.
film about life. about our life.
through images, music, characters, atmosphere, and most importantly – through the little things, it is told about what is not customary to talk about. although, it would seem…
do you often tell your friends that you like to throw pebbles into the water? that you collect photos of strangers? why do you cry at sad movies? what do you draw pictures? that you like to nibble on chocolate, and then eat the filling of sweets? What do you like to ask questions to yourself?
everyone has something in their head. but you can really get to know a person only by knowing all his oddities.
and it is impossible to convey the world as we see it from our heads.
    Amelie did it.
she revealed to us the most ordinary things around us from her own angle.
is probably worth living like that. not afraid of their eccentricities and be yourself. this is so often lacking.
Amelie teaches us not to be afraid of ourselves.
after all, if you turn the world upside down, then those who stand on their feet are considered crazy 😉

I watch this movie every time I want something magical and naive.
I think that one of the most brilliant films in my 27 years.

“Well, you are certainly not a fruit, because even a fruit has a heart” :).

There are a lot of catchphrases, an unusual attention to the little things that many do not pay attention to, but which are the little joys of our life.

You don’t have to be a superman to do good deeds and miracles, and most importantly, don’t forget your loved one.

Audrey Tautou – great, she wants to imitate, make the same ridiculous hairdo and put on huge shoes, I want to find a vegetable shop and buy a couple of pistachios there, and then run away to the pond and put a couple of pebbles on the surface of the water …
And even more I really wanted to go to France.

This film is always in my most prominent place and is always ready to please me.

    Brilliant!

9 loved ones. only we sometimes forget about it. “Amelie” reminds of this, because we all (all) love this good movie. Every time – returning to “Amelie” – admiring all these good little things collected by the director – we involuntarily recall the little things of our love – past, present or even future. Behind each strawberry on the finger is its own berry.
A person with a white cane needs to be moved across the road. and make the world around him a better place. we should not just love “Amelie”, but perceive this picture as a call to action.
Why fall in love right away? why just meet at the subway? maybe you should be a little shy, draw arrows on the pavement … so the meeting will be more interesting and long-awaited. No wonder the film is replete with stories and memories from the director’s collection, which he began collecting back in 1974. We need to collect this more often and make more films like this. Movies that help. To the one who remembers his – even the past – but love. To those who are waiting for her, this love. Who loves now and is ready every day to notice little things behind himself and his other half, worthy of replenishing the collection of a good director.
Good films are often remembered for a few details. For one good film, an aquarium falling into the river, balls scattered from the boy’s pocket and Audrey Tautou’s gaze would be enough. fortunately, in “Amelie” such details are in every frame.
Bad people should be told to their faces that they are bad. and spoil. why not? people who have loved and love can sometimes be lied to – after all, someone must support them in this love. kind people can just show the baby in the pool and the world around will become better)
We should not be in the crowd, we should try to be different. Take an example from Amelie – one of the best images of world cinema.
I really like Emily Watson and I even imagine how she would play Amelie with her beautiful eyes and childishness, but you believe so much in Audrey Tautou that after “Amelie” you want to see her again and again. Still, Watson, probably more psychology and drama, will do, but Totu – a sunny positive image, just for “Amelie”
everything has already been said about music.

The film is a dream, the film is a prayer, a passionate “please, please, please” to all heaven. How do you want this to happen, to make love, to meet ….
And if life becomes hopeless, you can turn to her, Amelie, the performer of secret desires ….

He began his career with director Jean-Pierre Genet, which continues to this day. He worked on paintings by the Coen brothers, Tim Burton and Alexander Sokurov. Delbonnel’s visual style is best illustrated by Amelie: as a rule, the operator uses very warm color palettes based on yellow and green. She also loves the grainy film effect, which, combined with color schemes, creates a slight touch of retro. His style is appreciated in the professional environment: Delbonnel has several Oscar nominations.
