    Horrible show

Fake show , almost everything they talk about is not true at all. The lion goes hunting by herself ? Then leaves the kill to go get the others? It looks like the show shot the animal for the lion.

    “Bethlehem.

    City of Jesus. Documentary

Jesus Christ was born here. Today it is a holy city for Christians. Each of us has heard of its existence. Everything that is written in the Gospels about the birth of Christ is connected precisely with these places.

The New Testament is actually a guide to the holy land, and, of course, to Bethlehem. Christmas is the main holiday of the city. We visited Bethlehem on Christmas days and will show you what the city looks like and what is happening here.

People start celebrating it here long before sunset. In Palestine, Christian holidays have a special relationship: even Muslim Arabs come here to show Christians their respect. The number of pilgrims usually exceeds all permissible sanitary standards. But there is no crowding either on the square or in the temple. Only chaotic, noisy Brownian movement of people. In the Middle East, such a tradition – all the time you have to greet someone, hug or bow with restraint. These days, the city is transformed beyond recognition – multi-colored flags and Christmas stars are hung everywhere. And on the square, there is a brisk trade in Christmas souvenirs and spices.

Bethlehem celebrates Christmas twice – on December 25 and January 7. Christians of the Western, Latin tradition are the first to celebrate. The second “wave” of holidays takes place on familiar days – January 6 and 7. It was then that Orthodox Christians and everyone who lives according to the Julian calendar celebrate Christmas. An obligatory attribute of the holiday is a procession of scouts. We will tell you who scouts are and why they play bagpipes and sing Soviet songs.

Christmas is not only the brightest, but also the most profitable night in Bethlehem: the city is shining with lights, all the shops are open. Trade is booming! Nativity scenes, icons and Christmas stars of all kinds are sold in local shops and souvenir shops all year round. On ordinary, non-Christmas days, it is quite quiet and calm here. And everyone who comes to the Church of the Nativity can slowly look at every detail and pray. We will talk about the traditions of pilgrimage to Bethlehem, about what shrines there are.

The main place in the temple is the cave of the Nativity. According to the Gospel, it was in this place that Jesus Christ was born. At the words “cave of the Nativity” a “textbook” image appears in the imagination. Stone walls, a view of open fields and an immense sky, from where the Star of Bethlehem shines. In reality, it’s not like that at all. The cave itself is quite narrow and long. The Nativity site is located at its eastern end. Two stairs lead to the cave. Usually pilgrims descend along the southern one, and ascend along the northern one.

Icon of the Mother of God of Bethlehem. This is a special icon. It is considered one of the most famous miraculous icons. Miraculous icons are easy to recognize by the number of gifts. Those whom she helped donate their jewelry – chains, rings, watches. Under the Bethlehem icon, it seems, hangs a fortune. This is gratitude from the families in which the miracle happened.

The Gospels say that at the time of the birth of Jesus, a star shone in the sky. It was she who led the shepherds and the Magi to the birthplace of the Savior. We will tell and show what the Star of Bethlehem looks like. How many rays should she have and was she really? From our film you will learn what they pray for in the cave of the Bethlehem babies and what they ask for in the Milk Grotto.

Bethlehem is a city where every corner is sacred. Christians from all over the world come here with requests for help and with gratitude for healings. This is a place that gives rise to a mood of contemplation, reflection and search for spiritual warmth. Being here, we seem to take a short time-out and become closer to God. And our hearts are filled with the warmth and light of the twinkling Star of Bethlehem.

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis and the new Serebrennikov: 10 most anticipated films at Cannes 2022

    • Forbes Life

    Still from Elvis series

This year the Cannes Film Festival will be held from 17 to 28 May, the only Russian director in the program is Kirill Serebrennikov with the film Tchaikovsky’s Wife. Also among the most anticipated films of the show are “Elvis” by Baz Luhrmann, a new work by Park Chan-wook, a body horror with Leah Seydoux and Viggo Mortensen “Crimes of the Future”

organizers have an additional burden of responsibility – they need to demonstrate that the review has not given up its positions and is the leading festival in the world. Therefore, the Cannes program should be even more stellar and brilliant, and there is practically no room for new talents and creative searches.

Most of the main competition is occupied by “wedding generals” – directors who have been presenting their films in Cannes for decades. Outside of the competition, a couple of big Hollywood projects are waiting for the participants to ensure a full house on the red carpet. At the same time, it is still tight with women directors on the Cote d’Azur, no matter how the artistic director Thierry Fremaux assured us otherwise: out of 18 films of the main competition, only three were directed by women.

    “Elvis”

Adept of kitsch and glamor cinema, Baz Luhrmann, the only one who can be forgiven for an endless amount of sparkles, champagne and excessive CGI, returns to the big screen after eight long years of silence. The premiere of his The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio took place back in 2013. However, this is normal practice for the director.

Elvis is described as a classic autobiographical film that tells the full story of growing up and becoming the king of rock and roll, as well as his difficult relationship with manager Tom Parker, whom everyone calls “The Colonel” (he is played in the film by Tom Hanks ). And the role of Presley is played by the young Austin Butler, who managed to flash in a couple of films and TV shows, but so far has not particularly distinguished himself in Hollywood. It seems that his finest hour has come. In the fight for the role, he managed to get around Harry Styles, Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort.

    “Top Gun: Maverick”

Another comeback – “Top Gun” (under this name the original film was released in Russia) after 35 years is ready to show again what it is capable of. In 1986, the action movie Tony Scott became the subject of a real cult that is still alive, and 24-year-old Tom Cruise woke up world famous. The sequel was ready back in 2019, then its release was postponed to 2020, and then the pandemic hit. The film had its world premiere on May 4 in Los Angeles, and now it will be shown out of competition at Cannes.

Cruise’s hero Pete Mitchell, more than 30 years after the events of the first film, continues to be the best of the best, working as a test pilot and avoiding a promotion that would lock him forever in a dusty office behind countless pieces of paper. He is offered to participate in the preparation of a detachment of graduates “Top Gun” for a special mission. One of the main intrigues of the film is whether Val Kilmer, who played Lieutenant Tom Kazansky in the original, will return to his role. The actor survived throat cancer and does not like to appear in public. Still, it’s hard to imagine Mitchell without his caustic opponent Iceman.

    “Three Thousand Years of Wishes”

In 2016, Mad Max director George Miller presided over the Cannes jury and for some reason gave the Palme d’Or to British film veteran Ken Loach, and now he will compete in the main competition with an “epic”, according to the director himself, film starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba.

Swinton plays an academic who meets a genie (Elba) in her hotel room in Istanbul. He offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. Their meeting leads to unexpected consequences. The rest of the plot is being kept under wraps. It will not do without Miller’s favorite large-scale action scenes, but the director does not tire of emphasizing that the film is far from the Mad Max style and is more focused on the dialogues and the inner world of the characters.

    “Broker”

2018 Palme d’Or winner Hirokazu Kore-eda continues his world tour: after his triumph at Cannes, the Japanese made his first foreign language film, Pravda with Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche, and now he is trying his hand at Korea. At the same time, the theme of his films remains unchanged – the family and all its derivatives.

The plot is somewhat reminiscent of “Shoplifters”, for which the director received not only the main award of the Cannes Film Festival, but also the “Oscar” in the category “Best International Film”. In the center of the plot is again a couple of cunning, but kind schemers. Song Kang-ho plays the enterprising Sang-young who, with assistant Dong-soo, sells babies left in baby boxes to new parents and calls himself a goodwill agent. One day they encounter an unexpected obstacle – the mother, who left the child, decides to return for him.

    “Triangle of Sorrow”

Another winner of the Palme d’Or, Swede Ruben Östlund, who presented his witty “Square” in Cannes at the previous anniversary five years ago. The director continues social experiments on the powerful and does not lose his sense of humor, despite the fact that he almost had to abandon the filming of the project due to the pandemic.

Östlund describes his new film as a “wild” satire about the obscenely rich world of fashion, where beauty is the currency. Woody Harrelson plays a Marxist captain who has to work on a rich man’s yacht. They crash, and the captain finds himself on the island along with several supermodels, billionaires, and a cleaner. According to the director, the film’s title refers to a term used in plastic surgery. It denotes a few wrinkles between the eyebrows, which are formed due to stress and are quickly removed with a Botox injection.

    “Tchaikovsky’s wife”

Kirill Serebrennikov is a frequent guest at the Cannes Film Festival. He started with Un Certain Regard, the second most important program, with The Apprentice, and then showed Summer (2018) and Petrovs in the Flu (2021) already in the main competition. This year he will be the only one to represent Russia at the festival. Alexander Sokurov could have kept him company, but he refused the invitation from Cannes, considering his new painting “The Tale” too serious for the festival audience.

Serebrennikov had been nurturing the idea of a biopic about the great Russian composer for a long time, but in the process of working on the project, its format changed. Serebrennikov and screenwriter Yuri Arabov decided to talk about one of the most tragic (according to biographers) events in the life of the composer – his marriage to Antonina Milyukova, played by the star of “Chick” Alena Mikhailova. Milyukova was secretly in love with Tchaikovsky for a long time, persuaded him to marry her, but, having learned about her husband’s homosexuality, she refused to come to terms with it. The composer was played by Gogol Center actor Odin Land Byron, and his friend and founder of the Moscow Conservatory Nikolai Rubinstein was played by rapper Oxxxymiron.

    “Time of Armageddon”

The title suggests that James Gray, the director of Little Odessa and Ad Astra, decided to make a film about our day, but that was not the case — the film takes place in the 1980s in Queens, New York, where Gray grew up . It is, he says, “a deeply personal coming-of-age story about the power of family ties and the pursuit of the American dream.” The project boasts a stellar cast, featuring Anne Hathaway, Anthony Hopkins and Descendants star Jeremy Strong.

    “The Decision to Break Up”

Korean Park Chan-wook has been able to earn himself the title of modern classic and one of the most popular directors in the world over the past 20 years. European festivals love him very much and are always in a hurry to take the master’s films to the competition. Cannes is no exception. Park Chan-Wook can already be called without hesitation one of the Cannes wedding generals, only in his case there is confidence that the director can still surprise.

True, he is constant in one thing. The Decision to Break Up is another psychological thriller. The film is about a detective investigating a murder. His work is hampered by the fact that he falls in love with the main suspect – a mysterious widow.

    “Crimes of the Future”

Since Julie Ducournot’s Titan won last year’s Cannes Film Festival, the body horror genre has gone from marginal to a popular way of talking to audiences. David Cronenberg made body horror films long before it became fashionable, and on a new wave of their popularity, he returns with a project that he failed to complete almost 20 years ago.

“Crimes of the Future” repeats one of the first films of the Canadian director, but is not a remake, but rather a reworking of his unfinished film “Painkillers”. The action takes place in the future. In order to adapt to the artificial environment, human bodies go through various mutations and transformations. Artist Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) and girlfriend Caprice (Lea Seydoux) put on a performance at one of these surgeries. At the same time, National Registry researcher Timlin (Kristen Stewart) stumbles upon a secret group who want to use Saul as a mouthpiece to talk about the next evolution of the human body.

    “Exposure”

Unlike most of the aforementioned directors, Kelly Reichardt, a lover of slow cinema and hyperrealism, participated in the Cannes Film Festival only twice: in 2008 with the film “Wendy and Lucy” and in 2019 as a member of the jury. Her films are American to the core, but she also has a lot of thoughtfulness and contemplation, so loved by European festivals.

Revealed is the director’s fourth collaboration with Michelle Williams, who worked with Reichardt on Wendy & Lucy, Mick’s Walk and Several Women. The director characterizes his characters as fragile people without an airbag, “whose world will collapse if you sneeze on it.
