nine0000 15 very strange questions about Hermione Granger that will make you think

There are so many contradictions in Hermione’s actions and character that we don’t even know where to start. She always talks about the need to follow the rules, but often breaks them. She fights for equality and justice, but does not always show tolerance towards those who do not agree with her views. She is certainly smart, but sometimes she does things that you can’t call smart.

Let’s try to unwind this tangle of intellectual and emotional contradictions? We have collected for you the 15 most unpleasant actions and qualities of Hermione that look completely meaningless.
nine0003

Here and below, frames from various parts of the Harry Potter film are used for the design of the article

1. Why did she maintain her toxic relationship with Ron?

Over the years spanning the seven Harry Potter books, Hermione and Ron argue, meet other people, break up, get back together, insult each other, and then finally get married. Hermione seems to just enjoy being constantly at war with Ron. Even JK Rowling herself admitted that Hermione and Ron are not very suitable for each other. And the actor Rupert Grint, who played Ron in the films, said in an interview that he was sure that these heroes would eventually get divorced, and the Weasleys would lead a bachelor life in a one-room apartment.
nine0003

2. Why does she always get special treatment?

Many students have problems with their studies in Prisoner of Azkaban, but only Hermione gets a time-wheel from Professor McGonagall to deal with it. Is this fair to other students who compete with Hermione for grades and academic awards? Hermione breaks as many rules as her friends, but she, unlike them, is never punished for it. She makes a Polyjuice Potion from the ingredients stolen from Professor Snape, then turns into a cat and ends up in the hospital wing, but no one asks her any questions.
nine0003

3. Why did she keep in touch with Viktor Krum?

Durmstrang student Viktor Krum, who competed with Harry in the Triwizard Tournament in the Goblet of Fire, was so partial to Hermione that he invited her to spend the summer with him at his family’s luxurious medieval castle in his homeland. Hermione refused, but continued to correspond with him even after starting a romantic relationship with Ron. Isn’t it cruel to give Krum false hope for something more? It was like she was keeping him on a siding in case the Ron thing didn’t work out.
nine0003

4. Why was Zlatopust Lokons so attracted to her?

In Chamber of Secrets, Hermione is extremely infatuated with the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, who has written dozens of books detailing his victories against fearsome creatures. It’s strange that Hermione, with her intelligence, didn’t immediately notice that he was just a vain liar whose only accomplishments were winning five times the Magical Weekly competition for the most charming smile and a record for handing out autographed photographs.
nine0003

5. Why didn’t she make her hair normal?

In Goblet of Fire, Hermione used the Simple Glitter potion before the Yule Ball to bring her unruly hair back to normal. But on other days, she does not want to use it, because “there is so much trouble with him!”. At the same time, Hermione easily corrupts student Marietta Edgecomb so that she develops ugly purple pimples. If Hermione can change someone else’s appearance so easily, why shouldn’t she fix her hair?
nine0003

6. Why does she play magic chess so badly?

Chess is the best application of logic and strategic planning abilities. Isn’t this game right for Hermione? Why is Ron so much better at it then? One could explain this fact by the fact that she grew up in a family of magicians, but the general rules of the game here, as we saw in the Philosopher’s Stone, are not much different from ordinary chess.

7. Why did she let Crookshanks go after Scabbers? nine0242

Capricious and unpredictable Hermione’s cat named Crookshanks was literally obsessed with Ron’s shabby old rat Scabber. In the end, however, it turned out that the rat was Voldemort’s henchman, the traitor Peter Pettigrew. But before Pettigrew was exposed, Crookshanks chased Scabber almost all over Hogwarts and tried to eat her more than once. What is Hermione doing? She defends the rights of house elves, but time after time she endangers her friend’s beloved pet.
nine0003

8. Why does she use spells so inconsistently?

In Philosopher’s Stone, Hermione easily sets fire to Professor Snape’s robes during a Quidditch match. But later, when she needs to free Harry and Ron from the devil’s snares, she begins to worry that she does not have a tree to start a fire. It’s only after Harry reminds her that fire can be made with magic as well that she realizes what she needs to do.
nine0003

9. Why did she only get 10 S.O.V.?

Isn’t Hermione a model of diligence and intelligence? Then why did Bill and Percy Weasley get 12 S.O.W.s while they were at Hogwarts, while she only got 10? Of course, she had to give up Divination and Muggle Studies, but how could this affect the results of our talented clever girl? She could figure out how to get out of this.

10. Why did she create the G.O.V.N.E. to free the house elves? nine0242

Hermione fights for the rights of the house elves, although most of them are quite happy with their lives. She even knits little socks and hats and spreads them all over the place, hoping that the elves will accidentally take them and be free. However, the houses do not appreciate her efforts, are offended and refuse to clean the Gryffindor common room because of this. Since Hermione is fighting for the rights of the elves, is it worth treating them so condescendingly? Maybe he should have discussed his plans with them, and not forced their release by deceit?
nine0003

11. Why is she so rude to Professor Trelawney?

Almost always, Hermione appears kind and caring, but in the case of the Divination teacher, these qualities fail her, and she begins to be rude. Granger speaks badly about the subject and even voluntarily jumps out of class after an argument with Professor Trelawney. This is rather strange, since since Dumbledore made Trelawney a teacher at Hogwarts, she must earn at least some respect from the students.
nine0003

12. And why did Luna Lovegood not please her?

Hermione constantly ridicules the Lovegood family’s beliefs – their fondness for fictional creatures like crinkle-horned snots, and their interest in Divination, a subject that she herself considers a complete scam. At Bill and Fleur’s wedding in The Deathly Hallows, she starts arguing with them so much that Luna’s father calls her “narrow-minded”. Interestingly, Luna admires Hermione at the same time and even draws her portrait and name on the ceiling of her dorm room. It seems that Luna in this situation behaves more adequately than Hermione.
nine0003

13. Why does she prefer Harry over Ron?

When Ron decides to quit the game and stop hunting Horcruxes in The Deathly Hallows, he asks Hermione to leave with him, but she refuses, saying that she needs to stay with Harry because she feels that looking for Horcruxes is more important than a relationship with Ron . If she really loved him, it is unlikely that she would have made such a choice.

14. Why is she so jealous of Fleur? nine0242

Hermione always says that she doesn’t care about fashion and how she looks, but in fact our heroine looks offended by Fleur’s beauty and her power over men. She sympathizes with Molly and Ginny Weasley when they complain about Fleur. Okay, Fleur does seem arrogant at first and allows herself to make snobbish remarks, but here you have to make allowances for another culture in which such words are not considered rude. Hermione often talks about how disgusting prejudice against the not like everyone else, but she herself seems unable to translate these ideals into reality in relation to Fleur.
nine0003

15. Why is she so indifferent to Marietta Edgecomb?

In “Order of the Phoenix”, Marietta tells Dolores Umbridge where Dumbledore’s Army muster, and in doing so activates Hermione’s spell built into the OD list. At the same time, we know that Marietta’s mother works in the Ministry of Magic, and she could have been fired. Now she has to live with ugly acne for several years, and Hermione does nothing to help her, although it is clear that Marietta is remorseful. This once again confirms that Hermione is not at all as kind as we (and she herself) used to think about her.
