6 Trends My Mother and I Are Both Wearing From Zara

@joiedejude

If there’s one person that loves Zara more than I do it’s my mother. If she’s not excitedly browsing their website, she’s perusing the racks IRL, or texting me photos of items she’s seen on Instagram, proclaiming, “you need to include this in a story!” At 71 she remains an ardent Zara devotee—and the Spanish brand with its grand variety of styles and trends no doubt fuels her love of fashion. And it’s safe to say the apple didn’t fall far from the tree!

While my mum and I have slightly different style aesthetics—I tend to favour neutral, fashion-forward basics and she leans into colours, prints, and embellishments—we do see eye to eye on certain styles (as you’ll see below).

So with a desire to add some new season pieces to both our wardrobes we took a little shopping excursion to Zara and surprisingly both gravitated to a handful of spring/summer trends that we’re excited to wear this season. From satin fabrics to fashion-forward orange hues, keep scrolling to see what trends both my mother and I are buying, wearing, and loving this season.

My mum and I love trousers (we tend to wear them more than dresses), and at Zara we both gravitated toward the loose and relaxed tailored styles that are everywhere right now. My mum opted for flowy drawstring pants for effortless comfort and I veered towards a high-waisted tailored silhouette. Either way, we both agree they’re perfect to dress up or down and look effortlessly elegant. Luckily, Zara has plenty of loose trouser options this season.

This season’s trending orange hue is a favorite of ours. It’s vibrant and fun for summer—and we both agree wearing it always makes us feel more joyful. I opted for a chic and versatile sleeveless knit that I can wear with jeans or neutrals, and my mum went for a bold, eye-catching blazer.

Button-downs are a classic that me and my uom both own and wear a lot. So it’s not surprising we’re loving the slightly oversize versions that are trending at Zara right now. There are plenty of cool colours—I chose a failsafe crisp white one and my mom went for a poplin shirt in a pretty pink hue.

My mum and I have always been drawn to silky satin fabrics and luckily Zara is really going hard at the trend this season. And why not? The glossy fabric makes every outfit look more expensive. I’m loving this pretty green hue and mom is a fan of this vibrant pink.

Singer Zara published a touching post on social networks, in which she congratulated her mother on her birthday. Separately, the singer recorded a video where her sons dedicate a poem to their grandmother.

Honored Artist of Russia Zara congratulated her mother Nadia on her birthday through social networks. In the message, the singer called her wise, kind, loving and beautiful.

“Every day I pray for your health! I pray that you do not know more grief … You have experienced so much and are still experiencing so much. I dream that you smile more often. I am the happiest. I have you,” the singer wrote.

Today, a video appeared on Zara’s Telegram channel, where the singer’s sons, Maxim and Daniel, congratulate their grandmother with poems. The performer also demonstrated magnificent bouquets from the closest ones, presented in honor of the holiday. Among them is a composition with lilac, which Nadia loves very much.

Hundreds of subscribers joined in all the warm words addressed to Zara’s mother, wished Nadia Dzhamalovna longevity in the Caucasus and Siberian health, and also thanked her for raising such a wonderful daughter.

“I’m still getting used to the fact that I’m a mother of two children”

Not so long ago, a joyful event happened in the family of the singer Zara – the birth of her second son. Happy mom introduces readers to OK! with little Maxim, as well as with the eldest son Daniel.

They say that in order to become happy, you need to associate as often as possible with those who are really happy. Sitting opposite Zara, I willy-nilly wondered: how does she manage to do all this? It seems that the life of the singer is filled with that absolute harmony that we, women of the 21st century, lack so much: she is happily married, she is a mother, and she is also really in demand in her profession – on the eve of our meeting, Zara had four (!) performances in one day. And yet, the most important thing for her in life is her family, her beloved men: husband Sergey, two-year-old son Daniel and very little Maxim, who was born just over a month ago. Looking at Zara’s face glowing with happiness, it’s hard to doubt the correctness of her choice…

Zara, congratulations on the birth of your son! What did you decide to name the baby?

We named him Maxim. They went through a lot of names – both Russian and Eastern – but settled on this international one. I didn’t think that I would have two sons … But I saw him – and that’s it: Masik, Masenka, Maximka … True, I myself am still getting used to this name and the fact that I am a mother of two children.

Did you and your husband plan another baby, or was Maxim an accidental child of love?

The child of love that God sent us. Of course, when the eldest, Danechka, was born, we thought that someday we would have a girl, but so far I like to be in a male society. ( Smiling.)

Tell me, is there a difference in how you felt like a mother for the first time, and now, when your second son was born? Is perception changing?

Something is changing every day. You become even more attached to the children, more and more heart hurts for them, more anxiety. When you go to concerts, your head stays at home. Of course, when you go on stage, you completely belong to the viewer, but the first thing you do when you go backstage is to call home and ask your mother, husband, how is the child: how did he eat, what did he learn today, what surprised or upset. Now is such an important period when I try to pay more attention to my eldest son. After all, he understands that another baby has appeared in the house.

And what was his first reaction?

Daniil at first looked at him, then he fell on him with his whole body and began to touch him – by the nose, eyes. And now, seeing that Maxim is in my arms, he can come up, stroke him very gently and immediately run away – such emotions overwhelm him!

Does Maxim look more like his father or mother?

We don’t know who yet. When Danechka was born, we immediately saw his father’s features in him. Now we are looking at Maxim, but we still do not understand whose genes predominate. The only thing that surprises us is that he still has – and more than a month has passed – gray-blue eyes.

Does dad have brown eyes?

Yes, we are both brown-eyed. Usually, in newborns, after some time, the grayish veil from the eye falls off, and their color changes. And there are no changes. So we will have a blue-eyed, in extreme cases, a gray-eyed. We thought for a long time who he was. My grandmother is blue-eyed, Serezha has a grandfather. This is our miracle.

Zara, when you got pregnant, did Danechka realize that mom was somehow changing?

He did not understand anything, he asked for pens in the same way, and it was very hard for me to refuse him. Everyone told me: “Zara, well, take care of yourself, don’t raise Danechka!” After all, he is our strong man. But I repeat, I try to pay maximum attention to my son so that Dani does not develop a feeling of jealousy. For example, I am very grateful to my brother, who was sympathetic to the fact that my parents took care of me more than them.

Is he much older than you?

On the contrary, he is four years younger than me. I have an amazing brother Roman, who has two higher educations, now he is writing his PhD thesis. He helps me a lot with the children, just an amazing uncle. He is very attentive. He captures on the mobile camera all the important events that happen to Danechka: how he spoke, how he reacted to this or that song. By the way, our older boy is very musical. And to be honest, it scares me.

Why?

I don’t want him to follow in my footsteps.

Is he already singing?

He sings and dances. We have a CD with recordings of our favorite foreign songs: Vaya Con Dios, Andy Williams, Elton John, Sade. Danny just loves it. And he also follows the latest in Russian show business. He really likes Valery Meladze, Stas Piekha, Stas Mikhailov, Dominic Joker, Potap and Nastya. At first he was a fan only of my work, but gradually began to listen to other performers. And if he suddenly hears his favorite song in the distance, he will definitely run closer to the column to listen. This is so touching.

Women become more emotional during pregnancy…

Yes, I remember some events or songs that made me cry. By the way, some of the songs recorded during pregnancy will soon appear on the air. We recorded them together with Viktor Yakovlevich Drobysh, and he was very attentive and gentle to me, because he himself recently became a dad for the second time.

Did you feel that the vibration from the music somehow affects the little one?

Danya loves the song of Al Bano and Romina Power Liberta very much. And I remember that, being in the seventh month, I performed it on stage. I don’t know if he heard, felt … Danya was calmer in his stomach, and Maxim was more mobile. But I think both of them were not bored, because I lived an interesting life, went on stage.

And you almost immediately returned to it?

Yes, a week after the birth of Maxim I had my first performance, which took place at Trofim’s creative evening. He wrote a song for me. I did not know if I would have time to give birth to this concert. But Trofim, like me, hoped that everything would work out. Because the premiere of a song by such an amazing author cannot but take place, especially in the Kremlin. But thank God, everything worked out.

And yet why did you return to work so early?

I have a very large team, and all this time they have been waiting for me. I had to get back in shape quickly. This is a big responsibility for the team. And of course, I missed the stage. Recently, my full-fledged one and a half hour concert finally took place. I was very worried. If I don’t perform for three months, I get stage anxiety. There is always excitement, but in this case it is anxiety that sets in: will I be able to meet the expectations of the audience?

Zara, you are so calm, balanced, gentle. And with the boys you need to be stricter …

There is one. But our dad is an evil policeman, and I am a kind one. True, we agreed that if dad makes a remark, I do not feel sorry for the baby – I am of the same opinion. It’s very hard. If dad forbids something, Danechka runs to me in tears, with the hope that I will understand him. But I try to restrain myself. The funny thing is, despite the fact that our dad is strict, Danya is still more drawn to him. He always escorts him to work. And the first word of our eldest son was “dad”.

Not hurt?

No! My husband said to me: “I will take care of the child when he is already three or four years old, when it will be already conscious for him.” But of course, he couldn’t resist. I notice that they have some kind of karmic connection, they understand each other without words. Seryozha melts when a child sees him off, when a cherry is brought to him first … Boys should reach out to dad. And mom will always understand. Mom will regret, mom will kiss, mom will sing songs before going to bed. A whole hour – my entire repertoire, the entire repertoire of the top radio stations.

Tell me, did pregnancy affect any of your preferences? How did you dress, for example? I don’t have children yet. ..

They will definitely!

So, when I thought I was pregnant, I bought myself dresses “for growth”. Have you had something similar?

Oh… I would like to ask all designers to pay attention to pregnant women. Women in position, unfortunately, do not have such a great choice, but you want to look good, like your husband. Something I have left from my last pregnancy, something I took from my mother. Of course, the stage wardrobe had to be completely changed: the tummy grew, and I had concerts. New Year’s shooting fell on a rather long time – she wore something with a high waist, darker tones to look slimmer. I did not want the viewer to have any tension from the fact that a woman is in position on stage. In the last months, I was more attentive: when you eat, you breathe with the diaphragm, and this could make the baby uncomfortable.

How did you tell your husband that you were expecting a baby?

I felt that something was wrong on the set of the video for the song with Alexander Yakovlevich Rosenbaum “Love for an encore” in Kyiv. It was filmed by Alan Badoev. We had many hours of rehearsals in the dance hall, then we shot in some extreme conditions until six in the morning in the rain, in the cold. Someone told me: “Drink a glass of vodka to warm up.” But something kept me: “No, no, I won’t drink.” And when I returned to Moscow, I went to get checked just in case. I remember that my husband and I were driving in a car, I just handed over a certificate with an ultrasound scan. He asked without turning around: “What is this?” And I say: “New life!” He had tears in his eyes, he just kissed me without saying a word.

How was it the first time?

We were waiting for Danya, hoping that God would send her. And when everything happened, we breathed a sigh of relief. Rather, the second time was a surprise for us.

Did you initially prepare the room for a boy or a girl?

We didn’t prepare the second nursery at all, so for now we had to refurbish our bedroom and move into the guest room ourselves. Our room was very bright, and we wanted the baby to live in this one.

But did you still want a girl or a boy?

I understand that it would be important for Serezha to have a girl. I see how he treats the daughters of our loved ones. He says: “I want a girl, as black as you!” I answer: “Earring, who will marry her?” Nothing, he says, we will have her with a dowry! But honestly, I would have taken a break by now. Two boys is a lot, let’s see how life goes.

Do you understand that children can interfere with your career to some extent?

I am very glad that I have known the joy of motherhood. I know the stories of many artists who, for various reasons, avoided this in the cycle of life events. They missed the moment or gave birth to only one. I’m glad it happened that I have boys. Of course, I want a girl to have a friend in life, but everything is the will of God. So I must be surrounded by men. But all the time you need to be in shape, always look good. I notice that when I put myself in order, get dressed, Danya tenses up: he understands that mom can leave home.

There is a trend: modern boys grow up quite infantile, in hothouse conditions…

Now my head is busy with my sons growing up to be real men.

How to achieve this?

Our dad is quite strict with them. I fell in love with him because he is a real man, with a core who understands that there is a family in his life, who devotes himself completely to her, who knows how to love selflessly. And I hope that our boys will also find themselves in life and be happy. Now the most important thing is that they are healthy and happy. When my parents were told: “How did you raise such wonderful children?”, I thought they were just words. But now I think my children will be like my brother, like my husband, like my father. And I hope that someday I will be asked: “How did you raise such wonderful sons?”

Have you had any conflicts with your husband regarding Danya’s upbringing yet?

Serezha thinks that he should not be loaded with mugs from childhood. He also does not want the child to study abroad – he is a patriot, an absolutely Russian person. I think that children need to be loaded from childhood, because at this time they grasp everything on the fly. And yet we find compromises. Sergey believes that creativity should be supported in children, this will develop them. He is a mathematician, and as a person who graduated from the Polytechnic University, besides a candidate of science, he believes that children should follow the technical line. But I also have a family of mathematicians: my father is a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, my brother is writing a dissertation.

Are you the only humanist among techies?

I was supposed to become a mathematician like my father.

Zara, grandparents don’t spoil the kids?

Both grandparents. They told me that grandchildren are sweeter. My dad – he works in St. Petersburg – as soon as there is time, he gets into the Sapsan and comes to Moscow. And my mother moved to Moscow for me, to help with her sons … They pamper, of course.

Gifts, sweets?

We don’t give sweets. Sometimes we give a piece of sugar – every two or three days. Danya knows where the sugar is, and reaches for it with his pen… It is customary for us, among the Eastern people, to pamper children up to seven years old. In general, I thank God that my family, my mother helps me.

Do you think you will eventually limit their TV viewing?

It is very difficult. Now is the time for gadgets – I have already downloaded developing programs to iPads.

Danya is so small and has he already mastered the technique?

Yes, he knows how to unlock it, how to turn on the video, how to find the song he likes on YouTube. Very nervous when the iPad freezes. But again, we try to limit all this, to make him more drawn to books. In principle, he leads the life that any child leads at his age. But he is interested in music. I tell my husband: if it goes like this, there will be no hockey player in our house. Serezha is fond of hockey. He laughs: “It’s okay, I won’t force him.” But I still hope that he will get on his skates in due time, because he has all the data for this.

Does the elder identify the mother as an artist and not just a mother who sings songs at night?

When he sees clips on TV, he runs to the screen and rejoices, smiles with all his 18 teeth. It is happiness to see a smiling, interested child. Any woman can feel it. And you will, trust me. But this is a big responsibility, get ready for it.

They say that when a child appears in a family, the husband becomes jealous of his wife. How was it for you?

At first, when I was still pregnant and waiting for Danechka, Serezha prepared me: “Look, don’t deprive me of your attention!” But when the children appeared, he realized that they are the most important thing in our life, all our plans are connected with them.
